RISO Digital QS Master
Digital QS Mesh is a unique polyester silkscreen mesh with a thermal film precoated to the back of the mesh which keeps the screen tensioned at all times - on or off a frame.
This unique coating allows you to create screens on a desktop, in normal light conditions, without no solvents/ no chemical emulsions/ no screen coatings/ no drying/ no washouts - pretty much all that time consuming part of screen making is eliminated for you.
Q. What is QS??
A. Quick Screen, yes, RISO made it that simple!
Is it Master or Mesh? It's both a mesh that creates a printing Master.
RISO Kagaku of Japan manufacture the unique thermal screen mesh for decades, the new generation is QS Digital Mesh suited for all RISO Digital models.
MiScreen & QS2536 models utilise QS in pink coloured format available in longer rolls.
GP100 model houses the mesh roll inside the machine, using a white coloured mesh with mounting flange attached to the core for roll registration in the machine.
New Digital QS Master is a stronger constructions for longer print life, up to 113cm wide, available in more grades, improves print quality - the new generation QS Master is ahead of the game in all areas.

Discontinued blue 'S' type Saran Mesh.
Was used by Thermal-Copier and PRINT GOCCO models, blue 'S' Type was discontinued several years ago. There are no stocks and there is no replacement or substitute.
The new 'P' Type QS Digital mesh is not suitable for Thermal-Copier models using older IR lamps.
Digital QS Goes Pink
Pink mesh for MiScreen and QS2536 model simply makes the design easier to see when imaged.
There is no construction difference between 'P' type mesh colours. 'P' Type stands for Polyester, or Pink, you choose.
GP100 With Flange End
Sitting inside the GP100 machine, the continuous roll of mesh makes screen after screen as required.
To ensue the film side of the roll is correctly inserted against the TPH for imaging, one end of the GP100 roll contains a flange which may only be mounted in one direction.
Have a question?
What we need to know: 1. Type of item you wish to print- t-shirts/ canvas/ polymer clay/ glass 2. Size of your design/ artwork 3. Number of colours in design 4. Quantity of prints per design
Frequently asked question
- 70Mesh allows greatest ink flow for solid designs, use with Supercover fabric inks on absorbent surfaces.
- 120Mesh is the sweet spot in the range with solid ink flow, fine detailed print quality and suitable for absorbent and non-absorbent items.
- 200Mesh is ultra fine designs used for glass/ metals/ plastics/ non-absorbent materials where off-contact printing is required for a controlled layer of ink flow.
200Mesh will limit the ink to a think layer - suited to glass/ metals, however cotton t-shirts will not absorb enough ink using 200Mesh and the design will be sharp but faint as too little ink was absorbed. This faint print will require you to pass over the design several times with the squeegee (or perform several layered prints), this dramatically increases the bleed through pressure = lower quality.
An ink with a high level of pigmentation and thick base, such as Supercover Fabric Ink will not pass successfully through a 200Mesh screen onto fabrics, a lower 120Mesh is required, or better a 70Mesh which allows free flowing ink on a single print with solid coverage.
It can be trial and error for beginners, however as a guide the 120Mesh will print almost all materials successfully.
As with all screen printing this number will increases or decrease with variables such as your printing technique (carousel/ hand/ automated), abrasion of the surface to be printed and ink used.
- Old school hard pressure will reduce number of prints, softer consistent will increase the prints.
- Abrasive materials (calico/ canvas) will reduce prints, softer materials (t-shirts/ cotton/ paper) will increase the number of prints.
- Professional inks have no effect on the number of prints. Low grade craft ink drying in the screen will require constant cleaning, this will decrease the number of prints.
2,500+ prints from a single screen has been achieved inhouse for sample printing of an A5 design by hand onto white linen - that's a LOT of prints!

Cleaning
To reuse the screen, remove excess ink and cleaned immediately after use with water or suitable cleaner.
Waterbased inks will dissolve under cold running water (as pictured right), without need for scrubbing/ cleaning - just allow 30 seconds for water to begin dissolving the ink.
Do not use abrasive cleaners/ scrubbers or harsh solvents as they may damage the thermal film on rear of mesh.
Using harsh ink cleaning chemicals or solvents applied (harsh solvents may damage bonding glue or thermal film).
Weak solvents used to remove ink will not damage mesh provided a final water wash is applied following ink removal.
Always test ink/ cleaning before use to confirm compatibility.
